Top seeds Trinity, Texas Lutheran lose first games at NCAA Regional

Top seeds Trinity and Texas Lutheran were both dealt upset losses to open their NCAA Division III Regional on Friday in Seguin.

The No. 1 seed Tigers and No. 2 seed Bulldogs will meet in an elimination game at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Trinity, ranked No. 4 nationally in the NCBWA/D3Baseball.com poll, gave up two runs in the ninth inning to fall 8-6 to No. 4 seed Franklin (Indiana) College. The Tigers pitching staff yielded 14 hits, while the defense committed four fielding errors.

Texas Lutheran, ranked No. 16 nationally, was blanked 6-0 by No. 3 seed Concordia (Texas) and starting pitcher Calvin Bush, who threw a complete game allowing three hits and three walks with 12 strikeouts.
