TV picks for Jan. 8: ‘Set It Off,’ David Bowie, ‘Antiques Roadshow’

Before setting sail

Trailers for the Sandra Bullock-led Oceans 8 have me itching to re-watch 1996s Set It Off (6 p.m., BET), in which another all-star team of actresses Queen Latifah, Kimberly Elise, Vivica A. Fox and Jada Pinkett Smith lead a riveting life of crime. For a female gang interested only in stealing laughs, you cant go wrong with 2011s Bridesmaids (7:30 p.m., Freeform), the irresistible comedy that made Melissa McCarthy a star.

Station to station

Dont let the title David Bowie: The Last Five Years fool you. While this moving documentary features plenty of footage of the late rock star overseeing his last two albums and a Broadway musical, it also does a fine job of chronicling his chameleon act over the decades, offering up a thorough documentary for even those who only know him as the guy behind Lets Dance. Director Frances Whately wisely relies more on Bowies former bandmates than his famous peers for insight.

7 p.m., HBO

Treasure hunt

Antiques Roadshow kicks off its 22nd season in Harrisburg, Pa., where a coffeepot, painting and necklace are all up for appraisal. Other stops this year include New Orleans, St. Louis, Newport, R.I., and Green Bay, Wis.

7 p.m., TPT, Ch. 2
