A Madison man who allegedly was driving while intoxicated narrowly missed hitting some children playing in a parking lot on the city’s South Side before hitting a parked car.

Emilio Juarez, 31, was tentatively charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, operating while intoxicated, hit and run to an unattended vehicle and disorderly conduct, Madison police said.

The crash happened at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of an apartment building on Catalpa Circle.

“He drove his SUV over a curb, across a terrace and into the parking lot where several children were playing,” said police spokesman Joel DeSpain. “He missed hitting them but crashed his SUV into a parked car.”
