Akron man shot in foot during attempted robbery

AKRON, Ohio – An Akron man was shot in the foot during an attempted robbery in the city’s West Akron neighborhood, police said.

Detectives have not identified a suspect in the Tuesday incident on Madison Avenue near Orrin Street, police said.

The 26-year-old man was walking to meet his girlfriend just after 8 p.m. when the robber walked up to him, bumped into his shoulder and pulled out a gun. The robber told the man to “give [him] everything,” according to a police report.

The man told the robber that it was Christmas time and that he did not have any money, the report says.

The man showed his phone it to the robber, but he could not prove it worked because its battery was depleted. The robber asked the man if he “thought this [was] a game” before he shot the man’s right foot, the report says.

Both the robber and the man ran away after the shooting. The man met his girlfriend, who took him to Summa Akron City Hospital for treatment.

The shooting remains under investigation, police said.
