Ione Violet Ronell of Fullerton, was born April 18, 1943, in Akron, Iowa, to Victor and Violet (Fickbohm) Siemers. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester, South Dakota. She died Jan. 23, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society in Albion, at the age of 75 years, nine months and five days.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Fullerton, with the Rev. Allen Pingel officiating. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, at Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton. Burial will be at Ahlsborg Rural Cemetery near Spink, South Dakota, on Jan. 29, following visitation from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester, South Dakota.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Orphan Grain Train, Norfolk; and LCMS Mission Central, Mapleton, Iowa.
Ione was raised on the family farm and attended Ludwig country school and Alcester High School, graduating in 1961. She attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Ione married Norman Ronell on Aug. 30, 1964. The couple lived for a brief time in Sioux Falls, and Green River, Wyoming, before moving to Fullerton in 1968. This union was blessed with three children and 54 years of life together.
Ione was a devoted mother, grandmother, and volunteer. She was a committed member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church where she was active in LWML, served on various committees, and taught Sunday school and VBS for many years. She was a member of the “Young Moderns” home extension club for 50 years, and enjoyed helping family with 4-H activities. Ione loved to have fun, and had a special eye for detail in everything she did. She was especially generous and thoughtful when giving gifts to family and friends. She loved to shop, be outdoors, plant flowers, and spend time with the grandkids, whether it was baking cookies, playing cards, games, or doing a jigsaw puzzle.
Survivors include husband, Norman Ronell of Fullerton; two daughters, Karren (Brad) Peterson of Canton, South Dakota, and Lara (Tyler) Tiller of Annandale, Virginia; son, Jason Ronell of Little Rock, Arkansas; six grandchildren: Sally, Sam, Scott and Seth Peterson, and Benjamin and Nicholas Tiller; two sisters, Ilene Siemers of St. Louis, and Inez (Doug) Hoisington of Sioux Falls; and niece, Charity Condon and nephew, Zach Hoisington of Sioux Falls.
Ione was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother, Raymond.
