Video shows fatal gas station shooting in Connecticut
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Video footage played at the start of a murder trial showed the fatal shooting that took place in January outside a Connecticut gas station.
Jayvell Washington, 39, faced a 12-member jury Wednesday as the trial for the killing of 50-year-old Eugene Rogers began, the Connecticut Post reported.
Footage played at the trial this week showed Rogers walking from a gas station parking lot in Bridgeport toward a car parked in the back on Jan. 27.
As the victim approaches the driver’s side of the car, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a handgun, pointing the gun at the window before apparently being shot, the video showed.
Rogers died from a bullet wound to the head, according to the medical examiner’s report.
Another video had shown Washington walking into the store to make a purchase and getting back into the car before Rodgers approached. The defendant is then seeing driving out of the parking lot after the alleged shooting.
Police said Washington and the Rogers family, of Trumbull Avenue, had been involved in a long-term feud that already resulted in the death of one of Rogers’ family members, his brother Chaz.
Washington is charged with murder, attempted murder, first-degree assault and gun charges.
He was released after posting $500,000 bond.
