River Hawks Knocked Off by Providence, 1-0
PROVIDENCE -- The 10th-ranked UMass Lowell hockey team fell to No. 13 Providence, 1-0, on Saturday night at Schneider Arena in Hockey East play.

UMass Lowell dropped to 17-10-2 overall (11-6-2 HEA), while the Friars upped their record to 18-9-5 overall (11-7-2 HEA) and completed the weekend sweep, which included a 6-1 win in Lowell Friday night.
Providence’s Tyce Thompson broke the stalemate to give Providence the 1-0 lead with 4:01 to go in the middle stanza for his sixth tally of the season, which stood up as the game-winner.
Senior goaltender Christoffer Hernberg recorded 28 stops in his 12th start of the season, while PC’s Hayden Hawkey posted 21 saves in his 18th win of the season for the Friars. Hernberg recorded 11 saves in the first and third periods in the losing effort.
Freshman defenseman Chase Blackmun finished the night with a game-high five shots on goal. UML plays two games vs. last-place Merrimack College next weekend.
