Gudrun Hanna Butz Kalt
Gudrun Hanna Butz Kalt, our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on May 21, 2018 at the age of 90 in North Salt Lake, Utah. She was born on July 1, 1927, the daughter of Eberhard and Johanna Butz, in Stuttgart, Germany. Gudrun spent much of her youth living through WWII, which shaped her into the strong woman she was.
In 1955 Gudrun moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she married Percy Kalt on Dec. 17, 1955. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on April 18, 1958. From this loving union, Percy and Gudrun had 7 children. They moved many times throughout their 50 years of marriage and retired in St. George, Utah. They served as missionaries in the St. George Temple Visitors Center.
Gudrun touched so many lives with her love and kindness. All who knew her loved her dearly. She made everyone feel like they were so special. She was a genuine angel. She was patient, compassionate and service oriented. She always exemplified Christ-like love, humility and charity in all that she did. She was very active in her community and church, while raising her children and supporting her husband. She loved watching tennis and had an exceptionally good day whenever Roger Federer won. She was very artistic and was skilled at pottery and doll making. She enjoyed swimming, genealogy, traveling, gardening, playing the accordion, and she especially loved playing games with her family.
Gudrun is survived by her children, Thoma Emmons (Bob), Michelle Nielsen (Perry), Manuel Kalt (Stacy), Tanya Park (Gene), Christina Rich (Darrell), and Andreas Kalt (Lori), 22 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, Eberhard Butz (brother), and sisters Esther Jensen, Beate Pendleton, and Thoma Goebel.
We grieve at this time of her passing, but rejoice for her reunion with her beloved parents, husband Percy, and dear son David who preceded her in death. We will forever be grateful for her unconditional love of which we have all been recipients.
The family would like to thank Utah Home Health and Hospice, the Waikoloa staff and Liliana Smouse for the sweet and loving care they provided.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30am with a viewing from 10 to 11:15am on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 N. University Ave. Provo. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Hills. To express condolences visit www.NelsonMortuary.com.
