A Rochester man was arrested Thursday after a woman said he beat her and sexually assaulted her early Thursday morning. At about 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Rochester police met with a woman and her friend at a fast food restaurant. The woman told police that at about 1 a.m., a man living in the 400 block of 31st Street Northeast had hit her and strangled her, according to Rochester Police Lt. Mike Sadauskis. While she was pretending to be passed out, Sadauskis said, the man removed her clothing and sexually assaulted her. Later, the woman left the residence and sought the help of a friend, Sadauskis said. They then met with police at the restaurant.Abel Emmanuel Browne, 25, of Rochester, was taken into custody at about 9 a.m. Thursday. Sadauskis said Browne’s statement to police corroborated the woman’s story.Browne is facing charges of felony domestic assault by strangulation, misdemeanor domestic assault, and felony third-degree sexual criminal conduct. He is currently being held in the Olmsted County Adult Detention Facility.
