Pepperell Town Meeting Approves Override
Both school budgets had similar reasons for their increases, including health insurance, debt service reduction, transportation for students and instructional support. Pigeon discussed other elements that led to Nashoba Tech’s 2.5% budget increase, specifically citing trouble with bussing students.
“There has been issue over time that we’re not receiving competitive bids anymore for transport,” she said. “It’s a statewide issue and the cost is increasing. We’ve tried using our own mini-buses and community service to bring students to athletic events to cut costs.”
With community approval of the budget and the override at the meeting, the town will have one more vote to authorize the override on the ballot for town elections on Monday, May 13.
