Clay blanks Westville baseball

Brayden Qualkenbush and Jackson Nowatzke combined on a two-hitter, but Westville couldn’t muster any offense in a 4-0 baseball loss to South Bend Clay on Friday. Nowatzke and Blake Henderson had the Blackhawks’ only hits. Nowatzke also walked and stole a base.

Cougars girls tennis downs Wolves

New Prairie’s girls tennis team beat Michigan City 4-1 on Wednesday in City. The Cougars’ Anna Holvoet beat Alexius Ramirez 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and at No. 3 singles, Brianna Wilson prevailed 6-4, 7-5 over Anna Kmiecik. Sydney Moody and Emmy Kirkham won 6-1, 6-2 over Aika Patejdl and Sara Poulin at No. 1 doubles, and at No. 2 doubles, Hannah Pittman and Naomi Paprocki topped Emma Sells and Kasey Halfacre 6-4, 6-4. City’s Evangelea Dabagia beat Megan Boyd 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. City’s JV won 4-3.

Local boys named to state top 60

Marquette’s Colin Kenney and La Porte’s Drake Gunn have both been chosen to participate in Hoosier Basketball Magazine’s top 60 workout Sunday at Marian University in Indianapolis. Boys, primarily from northern and southern Indiana, will participate in the first session from noon to 2 p.m. CDT, and the remaining players, primarily from central Indiana, will compete during the second session from 2:30 to 4:30 CDT, as part of the process in choosing the Indiana All-Star Team. Both sessions are open to the public for an admission fee of $8 ($5 for students).

Lamberson chosen for football hall

La Porte graduate Lambert (Lamby) Lamberson will be among the Region 1 inductees to the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. Ceremonies will be held during a May 5 banquet at Avalon in Merrillville. Lamberson, who was named to La Porte’s Hubner Hall of Fame in 2018, is part of a group that includes Bob Bartolomeo (Andrean), Bob Mattix (Portage), Joe Sullivan (Andrean), Randy Tumblin (Portage), George Stroia (Official), Stan Dobosz and Bill Holzbach (East Chicago Roosevelt) and Frank Thomas (East Chicago Washington). Tickets ($40) can be purchased at the La Porte High School Athletics office.

LP Soccer Club Spring sign-ups

La Porte Soccer Club still has a few openings on the U10, U12 and U14 travel teams. LP Soccer Club is for boys and girls age U4 through U14. Slicer Athletic Booster Club Golf Outing

The inaugural Slicer Athletic Booster Club Golf Outing will be on May 19 at Beechwood Golf Course with registration and lunch at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Information concerning hole sponsorships, or to register a team may be found on the La Porte High School athletic department website, by contacting the LPHS athletic department, or emailing Ed Gilliland at egilliland@lpcsc.k12.in.us.

Run with the Wolves on April 20

A “Run With The Wolves 5K Fun Run” will be held April 20 at Washington Park starting from the tennis pavilion. Those who register by April 1 will receive an event t-shirt and pack of biodegradable colored powder to throw at the end of the race. Registration on the day of the race begins at 8 a.m, and the race will start at 9. To register, visit http://educateMC.net/mchs or the Michigan City High School Facebook page. The event is organized by the Michigan City High School Class of 2021.
