Market offers free food to furloughed government workers
NORTHFIELD, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont farmers market is offering free food to workers furloughed due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The Northfield Farmers’ Market says it is also challenging the state’s other farmers’ markets to offer free food. The Rutland Herald reports the offer is good starting with the market on Feb. 3 at Plumley Armory at Norwich University — and includes the pre-Valentine’s Sweetheart Brunch, co-hosted by The Woods Lodge.

A fundraiser has been set up to solicit donations to offset the cost of the program for the market, which is a nonprofit organization. Federal workers should bring their current work identifications or badges.
