Authorities: 3 deputies injured after carjacking, 2 crashes
APOPKA, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say three Florida sheriff’s deputies were injured after a man stole a sheriff’s office patrol vehicle and crashed.
Lt. Kim Montes of Florida Highway Patrol said the 24-year-old suspect was speeding in a stolen pickup truck outside Apopka on Sunday morning when he crashed into a parked Orange County sheriff’s SUV.
Montes says Deputy Michael Myles went to check on the driver, who then stole the deputy’s SUV and drove off and was involved in a second crash.
Sheriff’s office spokesman Jeff Williamson told the Orlando Sentinel the carjacking occurred after Myles and the suspect struggled.
Williamson says three deputies and two other people were hurt in the series of incidents and treated at hospitals.
Montes says charges are pending against the driver, whose name wasn’t immediately released.
