Popular Comedian Alberto Olmedo Dies In 12-Story Plunge
MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina (AP) _ Comic actor Alberto Olmedo died Saturday in a plunge from his 12th floor apartment in this seaside resort, police said.
Police described the death of the 54-year-old Olmedo as an ″apparent suicide,″ but a judge ordered an autopsy and questioned a woman who was with him at the time of the fall.
Olmedo, who had been starring in a comedy review in Mar del Plata, reportedly was depressed over the shows’s poor showing and said in a recent magazine interview that ″the public has abandoned me.″
Olmedo, who began his career 30 years ago as an actor in childrens’ television shows, was one of Argentina’s most popular and successful personalities of television, stage and the movies.
Together with comic Jorge ″el Gordo″ Porcel, Olmedo filmed a dozen movies that were hits throughout Latin America.
