Middle School Softball: Heard fans 11 for OCA in loss to Grace
Eleven strikeouts in six innings turned out not to be enough for Maggie Heard and the Oakwood Christian Lady Eagles, who fell 5-0 to Grace Academy Thursday afternoon in East Brainerd.
Heard gave up six hits and walked two, holding the Golden Eagles to just two runs through four innings, However, Grace would add three more runs in the final two innings, while Oakwood had just one hit on the day.
Still, it was a marked improvement for OCA, who gave up 12 runs to Grace in the two teams’ first meeting.
“Our girls have made so much improvement since the beginning of season,” head coach Allen Taylor said. “We had several girls step up tonight to make big plays. Caydn Cahill made a big catch in center field to hold Grace to a (non) scoring inning to get the third out with girls in scoring position. Avery Green had three outs on first base and Chloe Taylor has held down the catcher position strong and made three outs.
“All in all, I’m very proud of this young Oakwood softball program.”
OCA will play Friday night at Lookout Valley before a full week next week. They will play Boyd-Buchanan on Monday and face Silverdale in a doubleheader on Tuesday before a game at Chattanooga Christian on Thursday.
