Sidney man dies after being dragged by semitractor-trailer
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — A 66-year-old eastern Montana man has died after being dragged by a semitractor-trailer on private property southeast of Sidney.
Montana Highway Patrol Sgt. Nyle Obergfell says the man brought the semi to a trucking company yard at 6:30 p.m. Monday. He spoke to mechanics about needed maintenance and then ducked or crawled between the truck and the trailer.
Obergfell says the mechanic, believing the man had returned to the office, started to back up. The man was dragged for some distance until bystanders saw what was happening and alerted the mechanic to stop.
The victim was taken to Sidney Health Center, where he died. Richland County Coroner Robert Pulver tells The Billings Gazette the victim was Michael Payette of Sidney.
Obergfell says the driver is cooperating with the investigation.
