Baby killed in golf cart crash near Mooresville
A baby died Sunday evening after a golf cart crash in Iredell County.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. on Pintail Run Lane near Spring Run Road.
Officials said a golf cart carrying a family struck a pothole, and a mechanical malfunction with the steering wheel caused the cart to overturn.
There were three adults and four children on the golf car, officials said. The driver and right front passenger were both holding 1-year-old boys, and an adult and two 3-year-old girls were on the rear-facing seat in the back. All of the occupants were ejected, except for the 3-year-olds, who were restrained by seatbelts.
The family was transported to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, where Kipton Jester, 1, of Denver, was pronounced dead. The other children and adults sustained varying levels of non-life threatening injuries, officials said.
No charges are expected.
