Joe Biden promises unity at Hollywood fundraiser: People are ‘sick and tired of what’s happening’
Joseph R. Biden promised to unite the country if he’s elected president in 2020, telling a glitzy Hollywood crowd on Wednesday night that the American people are “sick and tired of what’s happening” under President Trump.
The former vice president and Democratic presidential frontrunner made the remarks at the home of former White House interior designer Michael Smith and James Costos, a former ambassador to Spain under President Barack Obama.
“I promise you if we elect a Democrat this time I predict to you whether it’s me or someone else, but I guarantee you if it’s me what’s gonna happen is, we’re going to see this country come together like it hasn’t in a long time,” Mr. Biden told the audience, CNBC reported.
“Because people are tired, they’re sick and tired of what’s happening,” he said. “Let’s lift our heads up. Again, not a joke, remember who the hell we are. And let’s go take it back.”
Mr. Biden said he felt a sense of responsibility to run for president.
“You don’t have a choice: run,” he recalled being told, “this is not about you.”
Mr. Biden raked in over $700,000 at the star-studded event, where Jeffrey Katzenberg, Tom Rothman, Rob Reiner and Chris Silbermann were listed as co-hosts.
Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, Aubrey Plaza, Tom Ford, Michelle Kwan and Jason Collins were also in attendance.
