October 25, 2016

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Author Benjamin Alire Saenz is unable to travel to South Carolina so his appearance opening the University of South Carolina’s Fall Literary Festival has been canceled.

University spokeswoman Megan Sexton says the festival continues Nov. 1 with an appearance by Karen Joy Fowler, who will read from her work at 6 p.m. in the Hollings Special Collections Library.

Fowler’s work, The Jane Austen Book Club, spent 13 weeks on the New York Times best seller list and was made into a movie in 2007.

Fowler’s work includes works of science fiction, fantasy, and literary fiction.

She has written three short story collections and six novels. The literary festival is sponsored by University Libraries and the Department of English.
