New interim police chief named after fake accounts revealed
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — The mayor of Vermont’s largest city named a new interim police chief Friday to succeed two officials who used fake social media accounts.
WCAX-TV report s Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger named Jennifer Morrison to the job. She’s a former deputy police chief in the city and most recently worked as Colchester’s police chief. She starts Jan. 6.
Earlier this week, Brandon del Pozo resigned as chief over using a fake social media account to heckle a critic. Hours later, Weinberger announced that the officer acting as chief, Jan Wright, said she, too, had used a fake account. He replaced Wright as interim chief with Deputy Chief Murad, who will stay on until Morrison starts.
Weinberger said Friday that Wright was put on paid administrative leave.
Del Pozo submitted his resignation over backlash from using a fake Twitter account. He’s accused of using the anonymous account to respond to a critic for one hour on July 4.
