Suspect accused of choking and assaulting woman on a trail
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Police have named a suspect in an attack on a North Carolina trail where a woman was choked unconscious and sexually assaulted.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a tweet Friday that 27-year-old Taequan Elexus Carter is wanted in connection to the Nov. 3 attack. News outlets report he could be with his girlfriend, Elizaveta Markovetc, in Florida, Massachusetts or Rhode Island.
Citing a news release, news outlets reported the woman told police she was approached from behind, pulled to the ground and choked unconscious. The woman said a man who was on top of her when she regained consciousness got off her and ran away with her cellphone.
Another woman was choked but fought off an attack on the same trail in September. Police don’t believe the attacks are related.
