Furniture company expands into new building, hiring 20
PONTOTOC, Miss. (AP) — A northeast Mississippi furniture manufacturer is taking over another building to expand production.
Behold Washington says it will invest $400,000 in Pontotoc, adding 20 workers to the 215 it currently employs there. The company makes upholstered furniture and is owned by Behold Home of Smithville.
The company is also building a 400,000-square-foot (37,000 sq. meter) warehouse to replace one that burned in September.
Mississippi Development Authority spokeswoman Tammy Craft says the state is directing $400,000 in federal community development money to replace the roof and rehabilitate the building. The city of Pontotoc is spending $40,000 to buy the building. Behold Washington will lease it with an option to buy. Local governments are expected to consider property tax breaks.
Behold Washington isn’t saying how much workers earn.
