Teen Football Player Dies at Game
BARBERTON, Ohio (AP) _ A Barberton High School football player collapsed on the sideline during a game Friday night and died.
Joshua Miller, a 10th grader, fell backward behind a bench at 9:40 p.m. and was taken to Barberton Citizens Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:14 p.m., hospital spokeswoman Elizabeth Wilson said.
Wilson said it was too early to speculate on Miller’s cause of death.
Phone messages left at Barberton High School early Saturday were not returned.
The game was suspended in the third quarter with Ravenna leading 14-12.
Miller is the second high school football player in northeast Ohio in two weeks to collapse during a game and die.
Marcus Steele, a sophomore linebacker for Cleveland Central Catholic High School, died Oct. 13 after suffering a heart attack caused by an enlarged heart, Cuyahoga County Coroner Dr. Elizabeth Balraj ruled.
