Fairland beats Portsmouth 12-2

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Fairland (2-3 overall, 1-0 Ohio Valley Conference) scored four runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth on its way to a 12-2 victory over Portsmouth Monday in high school baseball.

Alex Rogers drove in three runs. Garrett Looney and Kyle Rankin each drove in two. Dacoda Chapman stole two bases.

Gavin Hunt earned the pitching win, giving up six hits, striking out four and walking one in six innings.

WHEELERSBURG 8, PORTSMOUTH WEST 0: Trey Carter struck out 10 and allowed just four hits as the Pirates defeated the Senators. Cole Ratcliff, Jalen Miller and Athan Temponeras combined for seven runs batted in.

Softball

PORTSMOUTH 8, FAIRLAND 7: The Trojans overcame a three-run home run by Emily Bowen to edge the Dragons.
