Brewers: Keon Broxton extends streak in 24-3 pounding of Mariners
Keon Broxton extended an impressive streak on a day just about everything the Milwaukee Brewers did worked to perfection.
Broxton, Travis Shaw, Orlando Arcia and Kirk Nieuwenhuis homered and the Brewers put up a 10-run fourth inning in a 24-3 shellacking of the Seattle Mariners in a Cactus League game at Maryvale Baseball Park in Phoenix.
Arcia and Nieuwenhuis went deep during a 13-batter fourth inning that began with seven straight hits as the Brewers went off against Hisashi Iwakuma and the rest of Seattle’s pitching staff. Milwaukee scored in each of the first six innings.
“A day like that,” said Nieuwenhuis, who led the way with six RBIs, “everybody goes home happy.”
Broxton had three hits, three runs and three RBIs and has now reached safely in all 11 of his Cactus League games. He paired with Shaw for back-to-back home runs off Iwakuma in the second inning. Arcia collected his first three RBIs of the spring. Jesus Aguilar walked three times and scored four runs.
Brewers starter Junior Guerra allowed one hit — Ben Gamel’s first-inning home run — in four innings.
