Couple accused of stealing 162 teen DVDs from library
STRATFORD - A Seymour couple were arrested after police said they stole more than 150 DVDs from the public library.
Leonard Charbonneau, 32, of Deforest Street, Seymour, was charged with fourth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny while his female companion, 30-year-old Carly Maurer, was charged with trespass.
Both were free on promises to appear in court.
Police said the couple entered the library on Main Street and went straight to the teen DVD section.
Maurer then took off her shirt as an apparent distraction to the library employees while police said Charbonneau began stuffing DVDs into a large purse. The two then quickly left the library.
Library employees later determined there were 162 DVDs missing.
Police said Charbonneau was later found hiding in a nearby cemetery.
They said he confessed to stealing DVDs but claimed he only took 30. He said Maurer didn’t know what he had been doing.
