Golf: Aberdeen’s Knittel wins IGA Junior State Championship
Aberdeen’s Bo Knittel won the Idaho Golf Association Junior State Championship on Wednesday at McCall Golf Club. Knittel edged Meridian’s Jack Curran by one stroke, 143-144, to secure the title.
Knittel carded an even-par 71 on Wednesday after shooting 72 in the first round Tuesday. Knittel hit two birdies and two bogeys in the final round and finished up-and-down his last five holes.
Knittel was followed by southeast Idaho rivals Braxton Stewart and Peyton Johnson, both of Montpelier, in 17th and tied for 21st, respectively.
In the girls tournament, reigning 5A state champion Payton Fehringer finished three strokes behind Jerome’s Bailey Henley for the championship. Fehringer shot an even-par 72 in both rounds and couldn’t keep pace with Henley’s rounds of 1-under and 2-under. Soda Springs’ Tyler Erickson finished third with a 9-over 153.
In the boys 14-15-year-old flight, Chubbuck’s Dawson Moon and Pocatello’s Garrett Fordyce-Ulrich tied for 14th with 170 apiece. American Falls’ Logan Mills was 25th with a 184, and Pocatello’s Kade Anderson finished 28th after carding a 197.
In the girls 14-15-year-old flight, Grace’s Lindsey Lloyd finished eighth with a two-day 168.
