INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Evencio Chacon hit a solo home run and a three-run triple and Jose Garcia Soto had a two-run inside-the-park home run as Venezuela defeated the Netherlands Antilles 11-2 in Pan American Games baseball Wednesday.

The victory gave Venezuela its first win after six losses. The Antilles also closed play with a 1-6 record. Neither team qualified for the medal round, which begins Friday.

Cuba defeated Canada 15-4 in an earlier game. In later games at Bush Stadium, the United States played Puerto Rico and Nicaragua met Aruba.

Chacon hit a home run leading off the fourth for a 4-1 Venezuela lead, then doubled to right-center to score three runs in Venezuela’s six-run seventh inning.

Orlando Torres went the distance for the victory for Venezuela, scattering 11 hits while striking out seven and not walking a batter.

Jesus Moya and Pedro Frias each had three hits for Venezuela.
