Sleep Out raises $300K for homeless, at-risk youth
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Dozens of Vermont residents have braved cold and rainy conditions to help raise more than $300,000 for homeless and at-risk youth.
MyChamplainValley.com reports the annual Spectrum’s Sleep Out took place Thursday night.
Each participant raised about $2,000 and spent the night under a tent in front of First Unitarian Universalist Society in Burlington.
Spectrum Executive Director Mark Redmond says he was inspired to launch the fundraiser after seeing similar events across the country.
Participant Abigail Kalonaros says she has a personal connection to the cause as once being in that situation.
She says she thinks it’s “so neat to be able to give these kids a second chance.”
