Softball: Small ball lifts Eagles; Bluejays thump Deerfield

May 17, 2018 GMT

WHITEWATER — Halle Peterson struck out five and picked up the win as Jefferson took Tuesday’s 5-2 Rock Valley softball win at Whitewater.

“We did a good job getting bunts down all night and moving runners,” Jefferson coach Steve Gee said. “Halle struggled with her control tonight and did not have great command but we did a nice job rallying behind her on defense and making plays when we needed to.

“It’s a great sign when your pitcher has an off night and you can still get the win.”

Eden Dempsey went 2-for-3 for the Eagles. Jefferson was aided by five errors from the hosts.

“Eden got us the lead early with a solid RBI single,” Gee said. “She helped us reclaim it with a great bunt.”

Jefferson (6-10, 5-8 RV) visits Big Foot for a doubleheader today. Whitewater fell to 8-11-1 and 8-7.
