Prep softball: Fort Atkinson, Milton roll to doubleheader sweeps of Janesville Parker, Janesville Craig
The Fort Atkinson and Milton softball teams opened their seasons Friday with comfortable sweeps of Janesville Parker and Janesville Craig in round-robin doubleheaders in Janesville.
In Fort’s first game, Sara Vander Mause went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double as the Blackhawks beat Craig 14-3.
Kiarra Kostroski had three hits, including a double, and Autumn Congdon went 2-for-4 for the Blackhawks (2-0).
In the second game, Fort pitcher Cat Brandl allowed one hit and no earned runs over four innings in a 10-3 win over Craig (0-3).
Sarah Pfeifer went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Vander Mause had three hits for Fort. Julianna Getka took the pitching loss and hit a double for Parker.
Milton (2-0) opened play with a 6-4 victory over Parker as Rachel Rogers pitched a complete game and Erika Reif hit a two-run home run Also for Milton, Laura Onsgard drove in three runs and Emily Goodger had two hits.
Jordyn Neeno connected on a two-run homer and Camryn Rosga had two hits for Parker.
Milton closed with a 20-12 victory over Craig, sparked by an 11-run first inning and a 19-hit attack led by Gia Gigannaro’s 4-for-5 night.
Emily Goodger and Toni Wurslin homered and Reif hit two doubles.
Craig got a home run from Abby Humphrey, four hits from Skylar Flood and three hits each from Humphrey and Paige Peloquin.
Oregon 4, Evansville 1
Hannah Christensen pitched four scoreless innings to get the victory, and Erin Newton had two hits and an RBI as the host Panthers topped the Blue Devils.
Monroe 10, Brodhead 6
Sydney Updike went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs as the host Cheesemakers (1-0) beat the Cardinals (0-1).
Olivia Bobak pitched a complete game, allowing three earned runs and striking out 11, for Monroe.
Wisconsin Heights 9, Mineral Point 0
Tayler Kraemer scattered four hits over seven scoreless innings and Kaela Kraemer went 2-for-4 as the host Vanguards blanked the Pointers.
