Dance majors to represent Mississippi on national stage
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Dance majors from a central Mississippi university will be the only to represent the state on a national stage in a collegiate dance competition this summer.
According to a news release, 12 Belhaven University dance majors will travel to Washington, D.C. to compete in the National College Dance Festival in June after catching adjudicators’ attention at a regional competition.
From hundreds of compositions presented at 13 regional competitions across the country, Associate Professor Erin Scheiwe Rockwell’s choreography has been selected for national competition. Judges say Rockwell’s imaginative use of multi-media made her choreography stand out.
Belhaven University will be the only Mississippi university participating in the competition, and the only Christian college. The competition will be held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts June 6-9.
