Sluggerfest is a softball smorgasbord

Fans have an opportunity to soak in two days of all-day softball Thursday and Friday in Cabell Midland’s Sluggerfest.

The slate of games Thursday at Cabell Midland has Huntington High vs. Hedgesville at 10 a.m. followed by Cabell Midland vs. Parkersburg South at noon; Huntington High vs. Musselman at 2 p.m.; Cabell Midland vs. Hedgesville at 4 p.m.; Hurricane vs. Musselman at 6 p.m.; and Hurricane vs. Wheelersburg at 8 p.m.

At the Ona Little League fields Thursday games are Clay County vs. Cross Lanes Christian at 2 p.m. followed by Clay County vs. Coal Grove at 4 p.m.; Spring Valley vs. Wheelersburg at 6 p.m.; and Spring Valley vs. Grafton at 8 p.m.

On Friday at Cabell Midland, the schedule begins with a 10 a.m. game featuring Hedgesville vs. Parkersburg South, followed at noon by Musselman vs. Clay County. At 2 p.m., Huntington High takes on Parkersburg South and at 4 p.m. Cabell Midland plays University. At 6 p.m. Wheelersburg plays University followed at 8 p.m. by Hurricane vs. University.

Friday at Ona it’s Webster County playing Cross Lanes Christian at noon followed at 2 p.m. by Webster County vs. Grafton, at 4 p.m. Coal Grove vs. Grafton, at 6 p.m. Spring Valley vs. Cross Lanes Christian and at 8 p.m. by Coal Grove plays Webster County.

RECRUITING ROUNDUP: Ironton sophomore linebacker Reid Carrico received scholarship offers from Marshall University, Ohio University and the University of Toledo. Carrico also has college visits scheduled to Michigan State (March 23), Iowa State (March 29), Nebraska (March 30), Ohio State (April 3) and Wisconsin (April 14). Fellow Fighting Tigers Seth Meadows and Gage Salyers visited Miami (Ohio) last week.

Ironton defensive back Brycen Thomas signed with Kentucky Christian University. ... Ashland defensive tackle Ryan Bryant committed to the University of Kentucky. ... Spring Valley offensive lineman Wyatt Milum picked up an offer from the University of Toledo.
