Meeting the Greatest Generation

Generations came together Thursday when children from all over Mason County met and learned from their forebears of the Greatest Generation at MediLodge of Ludington.

The gathering was part of Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital’s Win with Wellness initiative, and kids from Mason County Central, Mason County Eastern and Ludington Area Schools — all of whom participate in the Win with Wellness Fit Club — came to MediLodge to talk to seniors about the holiday season.

“It’s part of our Win with Wellness Fit Club after school series,” said Kaley Petersen, director of foundation and community services at Spectrum. “When we talk about wellness, it’s a lot more than just physical wellness. We’re highlighting social wellness and engagement with multiple generations.”

Fit Club director Leona Ashley — a former teacher at Ludington Area Catholic School — brought 12 students from fourth-grade to high school to tour the MediLodge facility and interview resident representatives from the generation that endured the Great Depression and World War II.
