Prep Wrestling: Glide wrestlers perform well on first day of Culver Invitational

CULVER — Glide’s wrestling team advanced seven of 10 wrestlers to the semifinals of the Culver Invitational Friday.

Glide wrestlers Gage Dill (113 pounds), Riley Reddick (120), Gio Allison (152), Zach Holland (160), Collyn Potter (220), Zach Welker (285) and Zach Vigil (285) all had quarterfinal wins.

Glide was tied for fourth place in the team standings with La Pine, both teams compiling 66 points. Culver led the team standings, followed by Crook County and Harrisburg.

Welker pinned Damien King of Sisters in 35 seconds in a 285-pound match. Vigil wrestles in the same weight class and was able to pin Madras’ William Lemus in 4:25. Reddick won the 120-pound match over Myrtle Point’s Michael O’Brien with a pin in 50 seconds.

Glide’s Gabe Syverson lost his 132-pound quarterfinal match, 4-2, to Kyler Shelton of Irrigon. Cayden Kangiser was pinned by Harrisburg’s Leithan Briggs in the 195-pound quarterfinals.

The tournament will continue Saturday.
