CT Tango Fest celebrates 10th anniversary

Master Argentine Tango dancers Carolina Leonardelli and Gabriel Salvi will headline the 10th anniversary edition of the Connecticut Tango Festival 2017, with events Friday, July 21, through Sunday, July 30, in Milford, Norwalk, Danbury and Middletown.

Also featured will be Emiliano Messiez, on piano, Javier Sanchez, on bandoneon, and Pablo Lanouguere, on bass. Other dancers featured will be Dale Ellison, of Charleston, S.C., and partner Gem Duras, from Connecticut’s own Tango Sueño Academy, the Tango Sueño Performance Group and Grupo Folklorico Rio de la Plata.

A Tango Passion Show, always a highlight of the festivities, is planned for Friday, July 28, at 8 p.m. presented by the Milford Arts Council at the Milford Center for the Arts, 40 Railroad Ave. S. It will feature all the guest artists. Tickets $42 and $38.

Friday, July 21: Opening Tango Social “Milonga,” with guest Dale Ellison, 7:30 to 11 p.m. $15 social, $25 with class. 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. First Church of Christ, 190 Court St., Middletown.

Saturday, July 22: Tango Boot Camp for beginners 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. $50. Milford Center for the Arts. Saturday, July 22: Tango Workshop, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. $40. Vitti’s Dance Studio, 10 Precision Road, Danbury.

Sunday, July 23: Intensive Tango Workshops, 1 to 5:30 p.m. $75. Dance Dimensions, 15 Cross St., Norwalk.

Saturday, July 29: Workshops with Carolina and Gabriel, 1 to 5:30 p.m. $75. Milford Center for the Arts.

Sunday, July 30: Workshops with Carolina and Gabriel, 1 to 5:30 p.m. $75. Dance Dimensions.

The festival is sponsored by Tango Sueño Academy and the Milford Arts Council. Guest artist Carolina Leonardelli and Gabriel Salvi, both of Buenos Aires, Argentina, have been dancing together since 2008. Last year, they were finalists in the World Tango competition in the stage tango category. They perform in the international show, “Tango Buenos Aires,” on the Royal Caribbean cruise line and teach master-level tango in Buenos Aires as faculty members of the “Escuela de Danza Tradicionales Argentinas de Lomas de Zamora.”
