Cornerstone 113, Bethel 109

NAMPA, Idaho (AP) _ Senior forward Mike Long scored 35 points and Cornerstone hit 26 straight free throws after halftime to win the NAIA Division II basketball championship with a 113-109 victory over Bethel College Tuesday night.

Bethel guard Ryan Bales hit a 3-pointer with .2 seconds left in regulation to tie the score at 98 and force overtime.

Long and senior forward Alan Gortmaker each went 9-for-9 from the line in the second half to lead Cornerstone (37-3) to its first national championship. Cornerstone was the top-seeded team in the tournament and Bethel (34-6) the two-time defending champion, was No. 2.

Bethel was led by senior center Eric Brand with 38 points and 10 rebounds.
