Naloxone used to revive DeKalb overdose victim
A DeKalb County sheriff’s deputy used the counter-opioid medicine Naloxone to aid an overdose victim Wednesday night, the sheriff’s department said today.
Deputies were dispatched to a possible drug overdose in the 6600 block of County Road 39 in Auburn about 8:40 p.m., and Deputy Ben Browand found an unconscious female with severely depressed breathing, the sheriff’s department said in a statement.
Browand determined the female was suffering from what appeared to be a drug overdose and administered Naxolone, the statement said. Within minutes, it said, she became alert and was able to be taken by medics to a local hospital for further treatment.
All county deputies have been equipped with Naloxone since 2017, the statement said.
