Area law enforcement agencies are gearing up for their torch runs that will raise money for Special Olympics.

In Lake Havasu City, the city Police Department will hold it’s event Tuesday, April 30. It begins at 7 a.m. at SARA Park. Participants will run on Highway 95 north to Rotary Park where they will stop for a bit with some of the Special Olympic Athletes. Then, they will continue north to Anderson Toyota, where Anderson will be sponsoring a breakfast for all of the participants.

More information will be released at a later date.

In Bullhead City, police officers carried the “Flame of Hope” through the city Wednesday after a handoff from the Arizona Department of Public Safety at La Puerta Road on Highway 68 with the “Flame of Hope” torch “hand off.”

Area residents joined them at the torch reception breakfast at Community Park. The event honored local Special Olympics athletes and special needs children.

This Saturday, from 8 a.m. to noon, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, The GEO Group at Arizona State Prison-Kingman, state Department of Public Safety, and Kingman Police Department will join forces to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Arizona with a 1K walk and 5K run (must register to participate), raffle prizes (donated by The GEO Group-Kingman and local businesses), food, games, and K9 demonstrations.

This event begins at Centennial Park in Kingman. It begins in the large parking lot on Burbank Street. Mohave County Department of Public Health will also be hosting their Day in the Park event at the same time in other areas of Centennial Park.

Throughout the course of the Torch Run, participants collect contributions from individuals and businesses, asking to help raise support for incredible Special Olympics athletes.

One hundred percent of all money raised during the torch runs goes directly to support Special Olympics athletes in Arizona and their supporting programs.
