March 2, 1996

___

``I didn’t really want to vote for any of them. The poor people do not have any representation at all.″ _ Rev. Ellis Vandegrift, 62, of Columbia, S.C., who voted for Pat Buchanan.

___

``I voted for Alexander because he is not so politically involved. He seems to care about the people more than all the Washington politics.″ _ Doe Plautz, of Columbia, S.C., who voted for Lamar Alexander.

___

``Buchanan is ridiculous. Forbes has sense and is probably the best one; he’s just not electable. And Alexander is just screwy. I think Clinton can beat anybody.″ _ Bernard Sandick, 70, of Columbia, S.C. who voted for Dole.

___

``I’m intrigued. I’m an idealist. I think we need idealists. ... If there are any idealists among the group, it’s probably Steve Forbes or Lamar Alexander. The rest of them are colorless. I find them unattractive. ... I’m intrigued by the flat tax.″ _ Marilynn Latta Knight, of Columbia, S.C., who voted for Forbes.

___

``I’m voting for Buchanan because he says a lot of things I believe in (such as) his abortion policy. I’m pro-life.″ _ Charla Wagner, Cheyenne, Wyo.

___

Alexander ``has a vision for the United States that Pat and Bob Dole don’t. Steve Forbes has set the agenda, (but) he doesn’t have the clout to win.″ Danny Williams, 38, computer programmer, from Columbia, who voted for Alexander.

___

``He represents the mainstream of the Republican Party in Wyoming.″ _ Keith Rounds, Cheyenne, Wyo., who voted for an uncommitted delegate named Jack Mueller.
