REV. JAMES HASKELL SCOTT

REV. JAMES HASKELL SCOTT, 79, of Canton, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 27, 2018. He was born on February 20, 1938, in South Williamson, Ky., to the late Haskell and Dimple Keesee Scott, graduating from Williamson (W.Va.) High School in 1956. In 1958, he married Nancy Jo Brinkley of Belfry, Ky. In 1960, Jim earned a degree from Marshall University, then answered his calling to the ministry, receiving his Master of Divinity degree from the Methodist Theological School of Ohio (MTSO) in 1964, subsequently serving at United Methodist Churches in Delaware (Asbury), Pavonia/Olivesburg, Ashley, Navarre (Otterbein) and Dover (First) for nearly four decades. In addition to Nancy, he is survived by his sister, Patricia (Ken) Harper; his children, Mark (Jodi) Scott, Melissa (Paul) Struharik, Michele (Ed) Brady, Amy (Robert) Burns and Carolyn (Don) Cooperrider; 15 loving grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; extended family and many friends. Jim was an avid reader and enjoyed sports, but his true passions were his family and his church family, sharing his ecumenical spirit with compassion, kindness and love to all the lives he touched. There will be a memorial service and Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 17, at Faith United Methodist Church, 300 9th St. NW, North Canton, OH. Calling hours are from 1 to 3 p.m., with the service at 3 p.m., and reception from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to either the MTSO Scholarship Fund, 3081 Columbus Pike, Delaware, OH 43015, or First United Methodist Church, 101 Second Ave., Williamson, WV 25661, in the name of Rev. James H. Scott.
