Strawberry Sued Over Legal Fees
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Attorney Robert Shapiro sued Darryl Strawberry on Wednesday, claiming he failed to pay about $100,000 in fees for a contract settlement Shapiro negotiated with the Los Angeles Dodgers four years ago.
Shapiro, who represented O.J. Simpson, apparently has been seeking payment from Strawberry since 1994.
But ``despite (Strawberry’s) repeated assurances of payment, he continues to breach his agreement with (Shapiro),″ the Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit alleges.
Strawberry, now with the New York Yankees, hired Shapiro in May 1994 to negotiate a contract settlement with the Dodgers. He allegedly agreed to pay Shapiro $100,000 in return.
Shapiro wants the $100,000, plus 10 percent interest per year that it has gone unpaid and attorney fees.
Strawberry, on the road with the Yankees in Minnesota on Wednesday night, was not immediately available for comment.
