Trial for Lodi man accused in firebombing continues today

September 29, 2016

The trial of Aakash Dalal, who is charged with terrorizing Jewish facilities across Bergen County, resumes today.

The day’s first witness is expected to be Samuel Lichter, who was vice president Congregation K’Hal Adath Jeshrun in Paramus when it was scorched on Jan. 3, 2012.

Two other synagogue leaders have also testified, saying that the escalating attacks served to sew fear throughout the Jewish community in North Jersey.

Dalal, 24, and his former Lodi schoolmate Anthony Graziano were charged in a 30-count indictment. Graziano was convicted of terrorism and 19 other counts in May. He is awaiting sentencing.

Dalal faces 20 charges including terrorism, bias intimidation, aggravated arson, conspiracy to commit arson and hindering for the incidents that occurred in Maywood, Hackensack, Paramus and Rutherford during December 2011 and January 2012.
