Louisiana school district to end school year early
MONROE, La. (AP) — Students in one North Louisiana school district are getting out for summer a few days early.
The News-Star reports the Ouachita (WAH-shi-taw) Parish School Board this week unanimously voted to let students out on May 21, instead of May 23.
Superintendent Don Coker says the district has about 5½ spare days built into the calendar for emergencies, and he asked to give two days back to the students.
He says the teachers’ last day won’t change because the district will use the extra days without students for professional development in math, science and social studies.
