Junior Rams stay perfect with 33-0 victory over Baytown squad
A nice blend of offense and defense powered the undefeated Deer Park Junior Rams to a 33-0 AFL Division victory over the Baytown Broncos in a TIFI youth football contest at Clyde Abshier Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The streaking Rams, playing their first game at Abshier Stadium since the season opener Aug. 19, saw quarterback Andrew Ramos throw for one score and ran for a second touchdown romp as the team improved to 3-0 for the season.
Aidan Weed contributed two touchdowns, while Trystin Floyd was on the receiving end to Ramos’ touchdown toss. On special teams, Isiah Aguirre returned a punt 35 yards that put a charge in the Rams faithful on this sun-splashed day.
Also on special teams, Bryce Medley has got the on-side kicking down to a science. Not once, not twice but three times he successfully pooch kicked the football the necessary 10 yards and the Rams recovered.
Defensively, the coaching staff named Creighton Rogers as their defensive player of the game, while linebackers Floyd, Jasper Hernandez, Jake Blair and Mason Smith were active young men, never letting the Broncos running game get a toehold on manufacturing anything that resembled a sustained drive.
The team ends September’s action with a road assignment in Dickinson, but because that city was hit so hard by Tropical Storm Harvey’s rains, there’s a chance it may be moved to another location.
If the Junior Rams can keep that unblemished record through next weekend, the guys will spend the majority of October at Abshier Stadium playing the La Porte Cowboys and the Santa Fe Braves.
