Unlocked cars rifled through on East Side, Madison police say
An East Side resident scared off someone rifling through his unlocked car Friday evening, with police finding two other cars suffering the same fate in the same neighborhood.
The attempted thefts were in the Gem Court area, Madison polices said.
A resident had just returned home Friday evening and hadn’t closed the garage door when he heard the door slam on his car.
“It was unlocked and in the garage,” said police spokesman Joel DeSpain. “He could see the intruder running from the area, in the company of several other people.”
The victim said the car’s interior had been tossed but nothing appeared to have been stolen.
“A responding officer found two of the victim’s neighbor’s unlocked cars had also been entered, with the contents of the cars tossed about,” DeSpain said.
No descriptions of a suspect or suspects were given.
