LPD and SSCENT investigating three heroin overdoses
Two previously reported deaths of a 24-year-old Ludington man and a 34-year-old Ludington man have been confirmed as heroin overdoses upon preliminary investigation, according to the Ludington Police Department.
These first two overdoses occurred on May 11 and May 12. Now, a third overdose of a 31-year-old Ludington man has been reported by police as happening today.
The 24-year-old man was reported as having overdosed around 3 p.m. at 307 E. Melendy St.
The 34-year-old man was reported as having overdosed around 2:30 p.m. at 110 North Washington Ave.
The 31-year-old man was reported as having overdosed around 1 p.m. at 901 St. Catherine St.
The Ludington Police Department and SSCENT are investigating the recent deaths and suspect that the heroin was obtained from outside the area and brought into the City of Ludington.
Assistance is being sought to determine the source of the heroin that caused the deaths of the three men. Anyone with information is asked to contact the SSCENT office at (231) 843-7045 or contact Ludington Police Department Detective Aaron Sailor at (231) 843-3425.
“The City of Ludington, like cities across the state and nation, is experiencing a huge surge in the use of heroin. While the reasons for this really may vary by location, the solution is universal,” said Ludington Police Chief Mark Barnett. ” Individuals within each community must band together and take action. We must educate ourselves and our children in prevention. We must provide opportunities for treatment and we must continue vigorous enforcement.”
