Fair goes on: Damp but not disheartened; rain washes out 1 day at fair
BEAVER DAM -- For a second year in a row the rain put clouds over the Dodge County Fair and kept attendance from reaching peak numbers.
Although Dodge County Fair Association President Doug Ninmann did not have official attendance numbers today, he said this year’s fair was comparable to last year’s totals.
“It really hit our bottom line again,” he said. “When the sun and blue skies were out so were the people, and they enjoyed it, but for a second year we were hampered by the weather. We were expecting bigger things this year.”
He said no one he talked with was really disappointed this year but the rain took one day off the fair calendar.
“People still enjoyed visiting the youth building and seeing the animals in the barns.” Ninmann said. “The kids really put a lot of hard work into showing their animals to the public.”
He said the new commercial building was a hit with the vendors. Ninmann said quite a few food and commercial vendors have already prepaid for next year’s fair.
“The fair association will meet with all of the building and tent superintendents and see what we need to do better or add on for next year,” he said. “Overall it was a good fair. We had a solid weekend with Foghat, Grand Funk Railroad and the demotion derby closing it out for us.”
