STARBURST 2019 is Set for June 15

May 23, 2019 GMT

LEOMINSTER — The Starburst Committee and its Premier Sponsor - Leominster Credit Union — would like to invite everyone to the city’s annual summer kick-off event, STARBURST 2019 — to be held at the Upper Doyle Field beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 15.

This marks the 27th year for this event.

This year’s event features the All-City Youth Band, Leominster High School Jazz Band, the Fall Brook Songbirds and the All-City Middle-High School Chorus.

There will be a magic show by magician Steve Charette, and U.S. flags and light sticks, donated by the Leominster Rotary Club, will offered to the children who attend.

The highlight of the evening, other than the fireworks show, will be the naming of the city’s “Citizens of the Year.” Each year the award is given to a deserving man and woman selected by the Starburst Committee and previous winners.

There will also be great food provided by food vendors on the field and on adjacent streets.

The evening culminates with a “Pops-style” concert performed by the 40-piece Starburst Band, conducted by Robert Healy.

Part of this year’s musical selections will incorporate music remembering the end of World I (1919); a tribute to Elvis Presley (remembrance of his 1968 comeback concert); music from the popular HBO mini-series “Game of Thrones;” honoring Glenn Miller for his World War II service; celebrating the 75th anniversary of D-Day featuring Richard Rodgers’ “Victory At Sea;” music in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon walk and the release of the movie “Ben Hur;” and popular selections from the music group Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and the broadway musical “Mama Mia.”

Appearing as a special guest performer will be Mayor Dean Mazzarella who will recite the epic poem”Casey At The Bat” accompanied by the band.

This will be followed by the fantastic fireworks display, which begins at approximately 9 p.m.

Prime contributors to STARBURST 2019 are the Leominster Credit Union and the Leominster Cultural Council.

Most of the event’s sponsors and patrons are local merchants and businesses and the committee encourages everyone to support them.

This is, as it is every year, a free event.

The rain date Sunday, June 16.
