Mostly Opera Turns To ‘Die Fledermaus’ For Leader’s Last Show
Mostly Opera turns to the work of composer Johann Strauss for its next program, coming to downtown Scranton on Saturday, May 18.
The musical troupe will present “Prince Orlofsky’s Gala Party” from Act II of “Die Fledermaus” at 7 p.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 232 Wyoming Ave.
Mostly Opera will sing an English version of the German opera, in which Prince Orlofsky gives a great party, and will feature Mark Knox as Prince Orlofsky and Chaka Allen as the vengeful Doctor Falke. Meanwhile, Sarah Houck will play Rosalinda and sing “Czardas,” while Nicole Rideout will perform as Adele and sing the “Laughing Song.”
The concert of operatic and Broadway favorites also will include Mostly Opera soloists Dennis Fanucci, Ann Marie Dupre, Liz Grohowski, Ben Knox, Abigail Zeiger, Christiana Gearon, Julie Ziavras, Thom Heaney, Jack Bernesky and more.
Linda Houck, music director of Mostly Opera will conduct the ensemble’s orchestra.
The show marks the last one for Helene Tinsley, executive director of Mostly Opera, as she is retiring.
“We have been running two shows a year for the last 19 years. ... It has been a wonderful ride, and I hope they continue to run shows after I retire,” she said.
Mostly Opera began performing in 2000 and performs a classical opera in the spring and musical dinner in the fall.
